HOW DO I CARE FOR MY CERAMIC GOODS

Our ceramic items are made for everyday use, and are all food and dishwasher safe. However we do recommend hand-washing when possible to ensure the longevity of your item. Light staining may occur on unglazed surfaces, so please be mindful of their exposure to particular food and drinks such as tea, coffee or red wine.

HOW DO I CARE FOR MY LEATHER GOODS

Our leather products are crafted from Buttero, a beautiful vegetable tanned leather from Conceria Walpier, a tannery in Italy. Before shipping out your product, we have applied a layer of natural oils to seal and protect the leather. With time, this finish does wear off and the leather can dry out.

To care for your product, avoid exposure to direct sunlight for extended periods of time. Conditioning 3–4 times a year is also recommended and will 'heal' scratches and marks, as well as help develop a beautiful patina over time. For conditioning, we personally like to use neatsfoot oil, but there are many other commercial leather conditioners which work just as well.

WHY DON'T WE USE 'VEGAN LEATHER'

While 'vegan' leather is not made from animal skins, the manufacturing of these alternatives can actually be quite harmful to the environment. Most of these synthetic materials are plastic-based, manufactured from fossil fuels, and take a very long time to break down.

On the other hand, the leather industry is a by-product of the meat industry, and no cows are killed purely for their hides. For as long as humans keep consuming meat, we will always have leather as a by-product.

The leather that we use is vegetable tanned leather. While it is a much smaller industry than chrome tanning, it is significantly better for the environment as it uses naturally occurring tannins instead of chromium based compounds to extract moisture from raw hides. Vegetable tanned leather also wears much better over time, and will develop a beautiful and rich patina.
